Each year sees rising interest in design professions, but many people still experience considerable barriers to access. Founded by Business Today, Design Nation is a pioneering student conference addressing the inequalities of an industry to ensure it is accessible to those without a conventional pedigree.
The conference’s first four years delivered an ever-growing roster of renowned collaborators. We were then commissioned to rebrand the conference and extend its reach to a larger and more diverse array of students.

We assembled a team of our own rising talent at Conran to lead a collaborative process. Working together with the Design Nation team, they developed a new brand model and system that embodies the energy and ambition of the students the conference needs to attract.

The resulting identity is bold, type-driven and able to serve as a badge of honour for Design Nation participants. Worn or displayed with pride, it’s a statement of their involvement in a programme that’s taking the lead in enabling better design careers for everyone, regardless of who they are or their background.

To reach more students more effectively, it was crucial to create a brand that would create impact and engagement across the conference’s most important outreach channels, such as Facebook and Instagram.
We also recognised that the conference identity should be able to evolve each year to reflect the current culture. The result is a flexible system that ensures coherence across digital channels, but also enables annual customisation.
